Eligibility criteria
Before you start working on an application, please check the eligibility criteria to see whether the applicant and the application is eligible.
An applicant is eligible for secondary or higher education support, if they meet all of the following criteria:
An applicant is eligible for income generation support, if they meet all of the following criteria:
they live in (western) Kenya;
they are between:
14-25 years (secondary education support);or
18-30years (higher education support)
they have obtained the:
Kenyan Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) with at least 250 marks out of 500 (secondary education support);
Kenyan Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), passing the national exam with at least a C- (higher education support);
their parents or caregivers or they themselves: have insufficient financial means to attend and complete secondary or higher education; but are committed to contribute financially or in-kind to the education of the applicant;
the application includes a motivation letter for support;
the school of preference is officially registered as a government school;
they include at least one support letter from eg a school teacher or community leader; and
they do not qualify (fully) for bursaries and sponsorships from the Kenyan government.
Higher Education Support applicants: you need to have applied for HEF (Higher Education Funding by the Kenyan government) and integrate the results in the application to Ya Juu Foundation.
Higher Education Support applicants: we will need access to your student portal for direct payment of fees.
they live in (western) Kenya;
they are between 18-30 years;
their parents or caregivers or themselves have insufficient financial means for support;
they have limited opportunities or skills for income generation including internships, job searching, networking and starting a small business;
the application includes a motivation letter and written plan to generate income either through starting/boosting their own business or increasing their employability; and
they include at least one support letter from eg a previous school teacher or community leader.
Applications are only considered if the application is complete with FORM I (Criteria and required documentation); FORM II (Applicant’s details) and FORM III (Declaration) filled in and submitted.
Specific attention will be given to adolescents and young adults who face additional marginalization in society due to some part of their identities, such as disability, their gender or ethnicity. Specific attention will be given as well to applications coming from within the network of the founder.
Please Note : Filing an application with Ya Juu Foundation does not guarantee sponsorship. It is at the discretion of the Board of Ya Juu Foundation to approve or reject an application. In her consideration the Board will exercise all due care.

Reporting requirements
If an applicant receives support, they commit to share:
1️⃣ a detailed report of the total expenditures, including receipts; and
2️⃣ a written report on how the financial support (a) has been spent and (b) has had an impact. Any other information is welcome in this report.
The quality of reporting will be taken into account when a follow-up application is submitted.
